🌱 Plants That Bring Heartfelt Vibes

Valentine’s energy makes space for warmth and heartfelt connection.

Pink and white Amaryllis in full bloom.
In a single blossom or a heart-shaped leaf blossoms bring beauty and meaning to indoor gardening offering inspiration and reflection.

If you’ve been following my indoor garden journey, it comes as no surprise that these plants carry their own kind of romance — offering beauty, presence, and a gentle reminder to care for something living… including yourself.

They uplift. They grow. And as we care for them each day, they care for us — inviting us to experience life more fully, more deeply, in rhythm with their own unfolding.

Nature’s beauty grows and shifts over time, creating a living atmospheric backdrop that brings warmth, depth, and a sense of calm into everyday spaces. When we give the gift of living plants, we invite a space where enjoyment can grow, and the bond between giver and receiver is held within the blooming beauty of life itself.

Here are a few of my favorite indoor blooms that feel perfectly aligned with Valentine’s energy.

🌺Amaryllis — Bold Love, Right on Time

Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) bursts into life with large, sculpted blooms that instantly brighten indoor spaces on even the

coldest winter days. Their elegant petals and
vibrant, shimmering hues — deep reds, soft blushes, and luminous whites — create a show-stopping presence while offering a
subtle daily reminder to pause and notice
the beauty revealing itself around you.

Indoor care tips:

These plants thrive in warmth, plenty of bright, indirect light, and regular watering. Watching them

grow from bulb to bloom is a slow, rewarding process — a simple indoor ritual full of life and color.

°Place in bright, indirect light to support strong, upright stems.

°Keep soil lightly moist, especially once growth begins.

°Maintain a warm environment, rotating the

pot occasionally so stems grow evenly.

🌱 Pro Tip — Amaryllis Are Perennials

Amaryllis flowers are perennials, meaning they return year after year with the right care. Once blooming is complete and the stalks begin to dry, trim away the dry flower stems. At this stage, the plant’s energy is naturally redirecting back toward the bulb.Allow the leaves to remain. Once the leaves have fully died back, store the bulb in a cool, dark place to rest.

When new leaves begin to emerge, that’s your signal to bring the bulb back into light and resume regular watering — the next bloom cycle is on its way.

🗝️Psst… here’s where it gets fun:
Four pots, four bulbs, you can enjoy blooms throughout the entire winter season. Amaryllis are categorized as early, mid, and late season bloomers.

Each bulb often produces multiple stalks, with 2–6 blooms per stalk, opening in succession. When timed thoughtfully, the display feels layered and continuous — one plant finishing just as another begins. Under optimal conditions, each bloom cycle can last over a month.

A true garden investment:

4 bulbs (in 4 pots)= flowers all winter, every year. Low maintenance, high return — especially for anyone who struggles with the colder months or seasonal shifts.

🪷Orchids — Slow Bloom Elegance

Orchids bring a gentle softness to indoor spaces, their blooms lasting for weeks — sometimes even months — with just a little attention. Long associated with love, beauty, strength, and refinement, they carry a quiet sense of luxury — elegant, composed, and enduring. Their presence introduces a soft tropical cadence into the home or office, calm and uplifting, never overstated.

If you’re looking to bring this slow-bloom elegance into your own space, I love pink Phalaenopsis orchids for a delicate pop of color, yellow Phalaenopsis orchids , layered look, or a classic moth orchid for timeless sophistication.

Indoor care tips:

°Bright, indirect light (near a window, but out of direct sun)
°Water about once a week, allowing roots to dry
slightly between waterings
°Good airflow helps prevent root issues

🌿 Orchid Pro Tip — Think Tropical, Not Potted Plant

Orchids thrive in warm, humid environments — in nature, they grow attached to tree bark, and do well on cork, but not buried in soil. That’s why they respond best to a watering style that mimics tropical rain.

Phalaenopsis orchid, also known as a moth orchid, planted in a round light-colored pot, set indoors against a warm terracotta wall with tropical palm leaf shadows
Moth orchid in a warm,
sunlit interior setting.
Instead of frequent small sips, orchids prefer an occasional thorough drenching.

Give them a good soak — a generous rinse or spray — and allow the roots to fully absorb the moisture. Then let the pot drain completely, let dry before watering again.

Depending on your space and humidity, this may mean watering only every few days, or even once a week.

For humidity- light misting or placing orchids near other plants can help recreate that moist, tropical air they love.

Food matters more than you think:
Orchids need nutrients to bloom. A quality orchid fertilizer — liquid or slow-release pellets — makes a noticeable difference.

Without regular feeding, plants may look healthy but never produce flowers.
If you’re wondering why your orchid isn’t blooming, check these three things first:

Light (bright, indirect light is key)

Water (deep soak, then let dry, but not dry dry)

Food (orchid-specific fertilizer)

When those needs are met, orchids reward you with blooms that last for weeks — sometimes months — a true slow-bloom kind of beauty.

🌺Begonias — Gentle Color & Comfort

Begonias offer soft pinks, rich reds, and textured leaves that feel cozy and inviting. Whether blooming or foliage‑focused, these plants bring warmth to winter windowsills and shaded corners with a softness that feels like a quiet hug from the garden.

good humidity and steady conditions. These plants traditionally thrive in shade, though many newer cultivars perform beautifully in bright light as well.

Indoor care tips:
°Bright, filtered light
°Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy
°Provide good drainage and moderate temperatures
°Avoid misting leaves — they prefer dry foliage

🌿 Begonia Pro Tip — Less Water, More Intention

red begonias and green foliage.
Begonias prefer moderation when it comes to water. Avoid overwatering — consistently soggy soil can lead to stress and root issues. Instead, allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings.

For best results, for container grown plants to promote blossoms, use a balanced water soluble fertilizer about half strength, approximately 2-4 weeks. Make sure to water in the container, not over the plant to prevent fertilizer burn. Use a fertilizer (15-30-15, '30' is phosphorus) to encourage blooming.

As blooms begin to fade, gently pinch them off with intention. This simple act redirects the plant’s energy, encouraging new buds to form and keeping the plant looking fresh and vibrant over time.

With a light hand and mindful care, begonias respond beautifully — rewarding you with continued growth and renewed blooms.

In the end, these plants aren’t just decorative — they’re living reminders to pause, nurture, and appreciate beauty as it unfolds. Whether given as a gift or chosen for yourself, indoor plants hold space for beauty, patience, and connection — a quiet expression of care, rooted in presence, and perfectly aligned with the heart of the season.

Beech Designs in Florida's Majestic Barrier Island

Bright morning sky with rainbow clouds over Florida’s Gulf Coast barrier island.

Let's go to the sea and see!

Will there be a rainbow? Most likely.

Here, off Florida’s barrier island, early risers are rewarded — dolphins tracing the shoreline as the day’s first light unfurls. Though the sun sets into the horizon on Florida’s West Coast, the morning arrives softly from behind us, illuminating sea and sky as if we’re waking inside a dream — the kind of hush and glow you might step into from a Maxwell Parrish painting.

Artists, like fishermen casting their reels, lasso the moment onto canvas. Clouds never seem so near here — mountainous and finely detailed — unfolding and morphing as
they drift, close enough to touch, dancing across the imagined canvases of inspired hands.

On the horizon, the sky and sea unzip with the first boat's wake. The trail of vibrant white wash accent the surreal bodacious clouds hanging about.

A gentle coastal breeze, holds your attention in the sand, the sun's warmth and light.

Witnessing every surface ever so bright and clear in its magic.

Rediscovering Maca — When the Body Finally Says Yes

Maca: A Nutrient-Rich Andes Root

Maca root (Lepidium meyenii) is a nutrient-rich vegetable grown in the high Andes of
Mountains in Peru
Peru and Bolivia. Used for thousands of years as both a food and traditional medicine, it has long been valued for supporting vitality, balance, and resilience.

In recent years, it’s gained popularity worldwide, with people exploring it for everything from gentle energy and hormonal support to stamina and overall wellness.

My Early Experiences with Maca

Over the years, I’ve tried incorporating maca into my routine to support nutrition, vitality, and longevity.
I wanted it to work.

But after trying maca from several sources — experimenting with different preparations and amounts — my body consistently pushed back. Sensitivities, subtle reactions, and a general sense that something wasn’t right made it clear: we weren’t optimizing.

Eventually, I accepted that maca might be one powerful superfood I’d simply have to go without. Some time passed.

A Fresh Start

Recently, I received maca from The Maca Team as a gift. While I was grateful, my past experiences left me with very low expectations.

Still, I tried it — slowly.

Twenty-four hours passed. No reaction.
Two days. Then a week.

And after a full month of incorporating this Peruvian-sourced maca, I realized something I hadn’t experienced before: my body felt calm, supported, and receptive.

No sensitivities. No warning signals. Just nourishment.
This maca showed me something previous well-known brands never did.

Why the Source Makes a Difference

Hands cupping rich soil, symbolizing connection to the land and sustainable farming practices

I believe the difference lies in how The Maca Team honors the land. Their Peruvian maca is grown using traditional rotational farming practices, allowing the soil to rest — sometimes for up to ten years — so it can naturally rebuild mineral richness rather than become depleted.

That patience shows up not just in mineral density, but in how the maca feels once it’s part of your routine. It shows up in the food itself.

When soil is respected, the plant grows differently.

And when the plant grows differently, it can offer its benefits more fully — and more gently.

A Nourishing Experience

For the first time, maca didn’t feel like something my body had to tolerate.
It felt like something it could finally receive.

Personally, this meant finally experiencing maca as it was meant to be: nourishing, grounding, and supportive — without my body sounding the alarm.

For me, I feel, this type of superfood is especially supportive for people with high-energy lifestyles — those “octane burners” who push hard day to day and may experience blood sugar or glycemic swings.

As a nutrient-dense, whole food, maca provides steady nourishment rather than a quick spike, helping the body maintain balance while supporting sustained vitality.

✨ Why Maca Has Been Valued for Generations

Maca has been used for centuries as a
Distant V-shaped mountains, evoking the natural origin and enduring history of Maca
nourishing root rather than a quick-fix supplement.
Traditionally grown in the high Andes of Peru, it supports the body in a steady, whole-system way.

Keeping Maca stored and ready to enjoy.

Common benefits of maca include:

  • Natural energy support – helps sustain energy throughout the day; not a stimulant rush, but a grounded sense of vitality that supports daily life

  • Adaptogenic qualities – supports the body’s natural ability to respond to physical and emotional stress, encouraging harmony and resilience without pushing the system

  • Hormonal balance support – Many people turn to maca to support hormonal rhythms throughout different life stages, appreciating its gentle, food-based approach.

  • Nutrient density – Naturally contains minerals, amino acids, and plant compounds that nourish the body from the inside out

  • Vitality & longevity traditions – Long valued for its role in promoting stamina, strength, and enduring wellness; offered as a steady, nourishing daily food

What stood out to me most is that when maca is grown with care — in mineral-rich soil that’s allowed to regenerate — it seems to offer these benefits in a way that feels harmonious with the body.
Instead of forcing results, it works with you.

Understanding Maca Varieties

Maca isn’t a one-size-fits-all root. Like many whole foods, it comes in different varieties — each with its own qualities and traditional uses. This is why maca can feel supportive for some and overwhelming for others.

  • Yellow Maca
    – the most widely used, appreciated for its balanced, gentle support.

  • Red Maca
    – traditionally grounding, often associated with whole-body nourishment.
  • Black Maca
    – the most potent and stimulating, sought for stamina and focus, though it can feel too activating for some.

What I appreciate about The Maca Team is that they respect these differences rather than treating maca as a single interchangeable product. Their maca is grown traditionally and in mineral rich soil.
The effect?

When a food is allowed to remain whole and is grown with intention, its effects tend to arrive the same way — gradually, respectfully, and in rhythm with the body.

For me, choosing the right variety made all the difference. Instead of feeling overstimulated or reactive, I experienced maca as a steady companion — supporting my days rather than demanding adjustment.

What I’m Personally Enjoying Right Now

I'm currently enjoying is the raw tri-color maca.

This blend brings together the full spectrum of maca roots, much like it has traditionally been enjoyed in the Andes for generations. Rather than isolating one variety, the colors are kept together — offering a more rounded, whole-food experience.

It offers a more rounded, whole-food experience, allowing me to receive a little of each variety’s supportive qualities without feeling pushed in any one direction. It feels gentle, steady, and balanced — closer to nourishment than supplementation.

How I Use Tri-Color Maca

I like to keep maca as close to a food as possible, usually earlier in the day when my body feels most receptive.

Strawberry and raspberry smoothie with Tri-Color Maca powder, served in a glass

Many people enjoy it in the morning, often before a meal, as a way to gently support energy and focus. Some take it on its own — without fruit or sweetness — to make it easier to digest. Others prefer blending it into something warm or creamy.

Listening to your body and timing intake according to your rhythm can make all the difference.

I initially tried mixing the maca with water first thing in the morning. I’m an avid water drinker — especially early in the day — but finely powdered foods can sometimes irritate my throat, even in very small amounts. That’s simply how my body responds, no matter how nourishing the ingredient is.

That said, I could still feel the depth of this maca — a sense of balance, steadiness, and foundational nourishment that made for a beautiful way to begin the day.

Over time, I found my rhythm.
Now, I enjoy it as part of a simple shake using the recommended amount — about one teaspoon — blended with water, a pinch of cinnamon, a touch of sea salt, seed butter, and my preferred protein powder. This combination feels supportive, grounding, and easier for me to enjoy consistently.
I usually follow this with movement — a
Woman in a mindful movement pose, practicing gentle activity to support wellness and creative energy
workout or gentle activity to get the blood flowing. Staying active is an important part of my wellness rhythm, especially as an artist. It helps maintain momentum, clarity, and creative energy throughout the day.

I also keep timing in mind. Earlier hours tend to feel best for me, allowing maca’s naturally energizing qualities to support the day without interfering with rest later on.

As with many whole foods, the effects can be subtle at first. Some notice changes quickly; for others, maca is a slow, cumulative companion — revealing its benefits through consistency.

Sometimes the most powerful nourishment isn’t loud or immediate — it builds quietly, day by day, in ways the body recognizes before the mind does.

Who This Might Be Well Suited For

This tri-color maca may be especially well suited for anyone who appreciates a balanced, whole-food approach to nourishment and steady, long-term support.

It’s thoughtful for those new to maca, anyone who found single varieties too strong, or those seeking grounded energy, mineral-rich nutrition, and minimal processing.

Individual responses vary — allowing curiosity, patience, and personal rhythm can make all the difference.

A closer look at its texture and color — a daily ritual of nourishment.

Final Reflection

For me, this experience has been a reminder that sometimes it isn’t the superfood itself that matters — it’s the source, the care, and how it’s grown.

When nourishment is rooted in respect for the land and offered in its most complete form, the body often responds with ease rather than resistance.

Maca can be a quiet, steady companion — supporting vitality, balance, and harmony, one mindful day at a time.

If you’re curious, you can explore The Maca Team’s tri-color maca gently, at your own pace.

🌱 Growing Plants Indoors:

How To Green Your Home’s Energy

Garden Sanctuary

*This is a follow-up on a recent post '4 Indoor Plants To Brighten Your World, Epecially For Those Winter Months.

🌿 From Hydroponics to Garden Towers — What You Might Discover

~Experience Indoor Garden Systems & finding balance through the seasons.~

Keeping plants happy indoors

I’ve always loved surrounding myself with greenery, but learning how to make it thrive inside took a bit of experimenting.
Before gardening systems, bought herbs, tried to keep alive. But not enough sunlight in window.

When it comes to growing plants indoors, moving from two seasons to four — and working with the natural light available — teaches patience, attention, and care. You start noticing how each plant responds differently to its environment, and you learn to adjust right along with them.

🌱 Starting From the Seed Up

When I started growing indoors, I noticed how much difference it makes to begin with good seeds. I love the Backyard Seed Kit — it’s a thoughtfully curated mix of non-GMO seeds that helps you grow everything from fresh herbs to hearty greens. It’s a simple way to reconnect with the rhythm of growing your own food, even in smaller spaces.

🌞 Finding Balance with Light

Growing sprouts
Many new growers find that supplemental light or
compact indoor garden starters make indoor gardening possible through the darker months.

These small setups allow greens to flourish through the winter months —  growing herbs and small veggies year-round, on countertops, shelves, or in cozy corners that wouldn’t support plants on their own.

🌿 What Survived the Seasonal Shift

Thriving Snake Plant
Some plants adjust beautifully indoors. Such as resilient, oxygen-purifying plants like english ivy, snake plant, golden pothos, ferns, and even aloe vera.
They bring life to the room, improve air quality, and stay green, keeping their rhythm through the darker months.

♻️ The Missing Piece: Compost & Connection

Hydroponics offer steady growth during low-light seasons — but soil brings something different: the natural cycle of composting brings a mineral rich feel and taste.

The natural connection of soil — that earthy scent (mineral rich), and the cycle of renewal that comes with composting fills in where the hydroponic leaves off.

Combining methods can give you the best of both worlds. Each system offers something the other couldn’t.

🌿 Learning As You Grow

If you’re new to plant care, having a simple guide that makes sense of it all goes a long way — from soil prep to seed starting. The Seed Growing Guide is an easy reference that simplifies what each plant needs, whether you’re planting in a pot, tower, or backyard patch. It’s like having a little growing coach beside you as you experiment and learn.

🌱 Meet the Garden Tower — Grow More in Small Spaces

The Garden Tower 2™ Move and Grow Bundle — a vertical gardening and composting system that bridges the gap between seasons and setups.
The Garden Tower

What drew me in was how It allows you to:

🌿 Grow up to 50 plants in 4 sq ft

🌿 Compost kitchen scraps into fresh soil

🌿 Roll it indoors or outdoors by season

🌿 Reduce waste + increase harvest in any home size.

The Garden Tower wheel option

It’s a happy middle ground — combining the ease of hydroponics with the grounding benefits of soil. It helps grow more, waste less, and stay connected to the natural rhythm of things, no matter the season.

🌱 The Journey Continues

Preparing greens from indoor garden for dinner

Indoor gardening has turned into more than a hobby for me — it’s a slow, steady reminder to care, nurture, and grow through every season.

Whether you’re just starting out or expanding your setup, finding the balance between light, water, and soil makes all the difference.

Final thoughts🌿

• Grow your health & nourish your home.
~ Having something edible year round, where you are a part of the growth and production is nourishing, fulfilling and it's an investment in your health.

Every sprout and bloom adds fresh, living energy that transforms your home into a vibrant and calming sanctuary.

• From seed to savings.
~ After a few harvest cycles, many find their setup pays for itself. Enjoying fresh herbs and flavorful greens and flowers — an endlessly rewarding and satisfying feeling as you bring a bit of the outdoors back inside.

Cutting greens from indoor garden for tasty meal

•Bringing the garden indoors doesn't mean growth has to stop when seasons change — it just adapts. With the right tools and a little attention, your home can become a year-round sanctuary filled with fresh air, beauty, and life.

Have fun, experiment, and enjoy your little indoor oasis. 🌸

The Charmed Studio: For Creative Artists & Writers

A creative desk scene capturing inspiration.

Are you an artist or creative entrepreneur? Wondering how to make your dreams a reality, but the thought of creating an outline or a spreadsheet makes you want to clean out the garage, or pull your hair out and run for the hills?

Me too!

Recently Beech Designs had a chance to meet up with The Charmed Studio. An online sanctuary where artists & writers can find encouragement, inspiration & rejuvenation. Created by journalist, artist, and writing coach Thea Fiore Bloom, PhD.

So delighted and relieved to find The Charmed Studio …so much so I had to make a post about it. Truly a haven for artists and writers.

(Note: Reasons prompting this post. In short- First, the algorithm rates the human being lower and lower on the almighty AI totem poll. It's more important now than ever, we as artists need to support each other where we can.

Second, because we as human beings came here to live from the heart, and love is being creative.

From my experience and insight it is a limited academic experience called art. So many artists/inventors have chosen to never create or invent again because of their experiences from an academic art setting.

After recovery may the love of art, and the will to create awaken within you again.

What do you need a degree for? Are you an artist or not?

For those that seek answers, have gone through the gauntlet, and survived, here's some insight.

Charmed Studio offers sound advice of the afterlife 😆

Honor your abilities.  Do the thing! And your chances are far better than what the tiny fractional slice of opportunity the institutionalized educational system offers. So without further delay, let's dive in!)

You’re Not Alone

Walking a field in solitude, reflection, and creative journey.

As heart centered artists, I think it's important to honor creativity while nourishing and being true to our soul. If we’re not good at making money within the profession, shift perspective. Our skill set is art making.

Supporting ourselves physically can help creativity thrive—sometimes I’ll sip a soothing cup of Golden Milk or take a few Clean Chlorella Tablets to stay energized and clear while creating.

In the art-world & academia, we’re not taught the business aspects, to make sure our art thrive.  This type of education/training is not provided.

When creating art is priority, and not marketing, how do we produce results without becoming robots?

I think, no matter where you're at, as an artist, it can be overwhelming to know how to navigate, build & be successful.

And coming from industry/ of institutional settings the general business/marketing model leaves so many of us creatives let down, uninspired, and drained.

This method isn’t for everyone, it has its place/its purpose. But our creative spheres wont fit into those square boxes.

When I start to feel boxed in, I’ll take a short walk, diffuse with a few drops of Organic Frankincense Serrata Essential Oil, or listen to a calming playlist — little rituals that bring me back to flow.

Woman painting in public at fair, spreading creativity and uplifting vibes.

When that valuable time & energy is used to do what we love, Creating art! Offering our unique contributions for the world to experience & enjoy while making a successful living at it.

We want to make sure our businesses can thrive. And build things that are profitable, successful, sustainable, and authentic. So that we can live lifestyles we want to live.

If you’re building your own creative biz, I’ve found keeping a simple artist planner or goal journal nearby helps turn dreamy ideas into doable steps.

But stepping out on one's own, outside of the sanctioned system, the supportive navigational substance has been like an unsolved mystery.

A Creative Nook In The Universe

Hands releasing butterflies, symbolizing transformation, creativity, and new possibilities.

I found the Charmed Studio to be a beacon for artists. There you'll discover a spectrum of resourceful coverage while offering insights and inspiration.

Thea says, "I noticed making a full-time career out of writing and art made me, and many professional creatives I’ve interviewed, feel like chicken cutlets; with the purpose pounded right out of us. Meanwhile, my artist and writer friends with day jobs beat themselves up, mistakenly feeling like their weekend art-making wasn’t legit.

Thea Foire Bloom founder of The Charmed Studio inspiring artists and writers.

I figure artists of every level need a restorative place within to honor, nature, & house the sacred creativity that originally got us up to join the dance of art. I referred to that inner place as The Charmed Studio."
